Case studies

In the heart of the city

The Media City Bergen building acts as a hub for both large and small media technology companies. The iconic building also acts as a digital connection point for Bergen and the surrounding region.

Infrastructure for a cost effective and sustainable datacentre is under development at this central connection hub. This facility, which has already begun to operate, will provide for an attractive co-location data center expansion close to Bergen city centre and many data-intensive businesses.

This data center would benefit from:

  • Innovative free cooling services
  • Heat recycling
  • Strong potential client base
  • Access to local talent

The data center would also gain access to other benefits of the Bergen region, which include competitively priced renewable energy and excellent connectivity with Europe and the world.

Warming up for the main act

Bergen is planning to develop a brand new sports hall and concert venue, with the city’s Kokstad Vest area being seen as the most likely location.

The new city arena will be surrounded by a business park containing modern, spacious office buildings.

Proposals have been made for a larger-scale data center at the ByArena venue, as part of a smart energy system. The benefits for the data center and surrounding buildings would include:

  • Heat recycling
  • Re-use of cold water for cooling
  • Smart power grid, offering greater efficiency

The policy decision on the ByArena’s eventual location will be taken in 2019; this is a good chance to get in early with this exciting and future-driven project.
